Winamp SHOTcast DSP

If you have Winamp, you can easily get started with DJing with the SHOUTcast DSP plugin. You can download this from the following link:

http://www.shoutcast.com/downloads/shoutcast-dsp-1-9-0-windows.exe

Once downloaded and installed, fire up Winamp, go to Options-->Preferences, scroll down to the "Plugins" section and select "DSP/Effect". Here, double click the "Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v1.9.0 [dsp_sc.dll]" and set things up as follows:

Tab Field Value   Notes
Input Input Device Winamp (Recomended)   There are two ways of using a mic. The first is simply to switch between "Winamp (Recomended)" and "Souncard" Inputs. The second (more prefered but doesnt always work) is to use "Soundcard" Input and set it to "Line In", using the "Push To Talk" (PTT) button to activate mic.

Encoder Encoder Type MP3   Some connections will experiance buffering issues due to internet speed limitations. Reducing quality here can help alliviate this. Also wireless connections offen experiance packet loss, and increasing the broadcast bitrate will help comphensate.
Encoder Setting 64kbps, 22.050kHz, Stereo

Output Connect at Startup false (unchecked)   Please do not check this, as you will end up auto-connecting every time you start winamp and that will get annoying for the rest of us ;)
Yellow Pages --> Make this Server Public (Recomended) True (checked)   Broadcasts your details to the SHOUTcast server. Tick this so people know who they are listening to.
Yellow Pages --> Description <INSERT YOUR SET NAME HERE>
Yellow Pages --> URL http://www.purephonix.com   As Yellow Pages info is broadcast to the SHOUTcast main server, this link needs to take people to the Pure Phonix website.
Yellow Pages --> Genre <INSERT YOUR SET THEME HERE>
Yellow Pages --> ICQ / AIM / IRC <INSERT YOUR PERSONAL CONTACT DETAILS HERE>   These are optional, but you may if you wish insert personal details here. IRC channel should be set as "#purepwnage"
Yellow Pages --> Track Title/URL Leave as default   Default values should be left alone so that song info is updated properly. Default values are all 3 of the check boxes set as true (checked)
Connection --> Address, Port, Password <THESE WILL BE SENT TO YOU>   Lol yeh rite! you reli tink I iz gunna tell you dem 'ere?! Yunz avin a giraffe geeze! XD
Connection --> Encoder 1   This references the encoder you set up in the encoder tab. If you set it up as anything other than 1, then this value should match the one you plan to use.
Connection --> Auto-reconnect on connection failure True (Checked)   Attempts to reconnect you if server connection is lost.
Connection --> Reconnection Timeout 30 seconds   This will attempt to reconnect for 30 seconds before giving up on the server.

SAM Broadcaster
Setting up SAM Broadcaster is fairly straight forward. You can get a demo copy of SAM Broadcaster from HERE, but obviously you will ned to buy a full version if you plan to use the program for any significant length of time. Once acquired, simply install SAM (you may want to use either the Firebird database (easy to setup) or the MySQL database (which is the most common and powerfull, and will be useable with special features of Pure Phonix)).

Once installed, fire up SAM. To set up a connection, go to the window menu, and click "encoders". In the new window that appears, click the + sign to add a new encoder. Another new box should appear asking what type of encoding you want to use. Select the "MP3 and mp3PRO" option, and click "ok". You are now presented with the stream configuration box. The details are as follows:

Converter Tab -
Format should be 128kbps Stereo, Autostart Encoder should be *UNTICKED*, and Auto Reconnect Encoder should be set to 30.

Server Details Tab -
Type should be "ShoutCAST", Station Name should be set to your Set title, Genre should be set to the closest match for the type of music you plan on playing, Website URL should be http://www.purephonix.com, IRC Channel should be set to #purephonix, and the Server IP, Server Port and Password can be found in the DJ Lounge on the Pure Phonix forums.

Stream Archive -
Leave this alone unless you want to save lists of the songs you play.

Once you have done this, click the "ok" button. You should be taken back to the "Encoders" window, and your new configuration should be listed. Select this, and click the button that looks like a "play" button to connect to the server. Then? Play some ch00nz ph00l! =D

**NOTE** You can set up and save connection details for more than one stream, which is usefull for quickly connecting to other stations to broadcast.
